The cities and townships of Waterloo Region have worked together to standardize the protocols for recreation facilities and community centres as much as possible to ensure consistency and help everyone understand the rules. Standardized rules around pre-screening, physical distancing, use of face coverings and no re-entry after screening have all been developed in consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health. Each regional municipality is responsible for updating their own websites with the following press release and linking to their corresponding facility information webpages. Each municipality is also responsible for their own social media, utilizing the graphic templates provided.

The Canadian Thoracic Society supports the public health recommendation to wear a non-medical face covering when it is not possible to maintain 2 meters of physical distance from others.

“Have you done a risk assessment?”. If you're not sure how to or what this assessment requires,  consider PSHSA's new “General Infectious Disease Risk Assessment (IDRA)” tool on their website. It comes with instructions so you should be able to read it and conduct the IDRA yourself.

SAMPLE Cleaning and Disinfection Procedure

1. Cleaning is recommended after each use. Nitrile or vinyl gloves should be worn during cleaning as well as other personal protective equipment (PPE) as indicated.
2. Remove any filters or cartridges. The full facepiece may be further disassembled as necessary.
3. Remove accessories as necessary and as directed in the operating and maintenance user instructions.
4. Inspect the full facepiece per the operating and maintenance user instructions to identify any damage or excessive wear. Repair or replace the full facepiece as necessary.
5. Clean the full facepiece by immersing it in warm water not to exceed 110 °F (43 °C), and scrub with soft brush until clean. Add neutral detergent if necessary. Do not use cleaners containing lanolin or other oils. NOTE: Solvents and strong detergency may damage respirators and respirator components and should not be used for cleaning.
6. Rinse thoroughly with fresh warm water.
7. Disinfect the full facepiece with the selected disinfectant solution, strictly following the manufacturer’s user instructions either by spraying to completely cover all surfaces or full immersion in a container of solution for the instructed dwell time. Do not exceed the concentration and dwell time.
8. Rinse thoroughly with fresh warm water.
9. Air dry in a non-contaminated area or follow the directions provided in the operating and maintenance user instructions provided with the full facepiece.
10. Inspect and reassemble the respirator as described in the operation and maintenance user instructions.
11. The respirator should be stored in a non-contaminated area when not in use.
12. Replace the unit based on recommended lifecycle of device.

PSHA - Conducting an Infectious Disease Risk Assessment

During the COVID-19 pandemic many things have changed in our society, but when it comes to occupational health and safety, not much is new.

Employers and supervisors must still have a risk management program in place to recognize, assess, control and evaluate risks in the workplace. All workplace parties have a role, and everyone must do their part to successfully identify occupational health and safety risks and implement controls to mitigate these risks to keep people within acceptable levels of health and safety risk.

Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA)

The Great Debate: Mandatory Vaccination Policies

Ontario Provincial Guidance for Screening Workers has been Updated

Under the revised screening questions, fully vaccinated employees (≥14 days after receiving their second dose) will be cleared to attend work even if they,

1. have been identified as a close contact
2. received a COVID exposure alert from the cell phone app
3. have travelled outside of Canada
4. are living with someone experiencing COVID symptoms and/or waiting for test results

The City of Peterborough uses an online application if you intend to use a City park, facility or street for an event. This Manual and Application is intended to support and guide you through your planning process and help you understand your obligations.
