Toronto, Ontario, May 7, 2026 – Asset management in recreation facilities is crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of physical resources. It involves a systematic approach to understanding and maintaining these assets, which are often the “hub” of a community or play an important role in the quality of life within that community.

In 2016, the ORFA entered into a partnership agreement with Marmak to develop and provide the inventory module of a new Recreation Facility Asset Management (RFAM) software application. The RFAM Inventory Module continues to be a tool provided at no cost and a benefit of ORFA membership to assist in providing an industry leading solution for the collection of capital equipment data for recreation facilities.

To date, this collaboration has resulted in over 135 Ontario municipalities collecting over 20,000 pieces of equipment, 50,000 ice maintenance logs, across 1,300 facilities and open spaces. More recently, in 2025 Marmak developed a professional ice management system called SUB-ZERO which helps arena operators maintain consistent ice quality, improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. With the success of this partnership, ORFA members have also been provided with a no cost benefit of membership to access the flood/cut log module of SUB-ZERO.

According to John Tarantino, Vice-President, Marmak, “Building on the success of RFAM, our partnership with the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association marks a shift from traditional asset management into a fully digital era of ice operations. With SUB-ZERO, we’re equipping a new generation of operators with the insights and tools needed to drive consistency, improve performance, and lead the industry toward a more sustainable future.”

Amy Gangl, ORFA President and Chair of the Board of Directors says, “This partner agreement is more than a collaboration; it’s a shared commitment to supporting the recreation facilities profession. By continuing our partnership with Marmak, we are amplifying our ability to serve ORFA members and creating a sustainable path for long-term change in our communities. In the ever-changing recreation landscape, a renewed collaboration with Marmak allows us to align our strengths and support our strategic goals and objectives, ensuring that our combined efforts yield greater efficiency and better outcomes for those we support.”

With the renewed collaboration between the ORFA and Marmak a coordinated exchange of information between the two parties with regards to the collection and management of recreation facilities asset data will support the recreation facilities profession.
